Deborah Howell, P.A
My earlier path in life led me to always want to work with kids. Having a father who died when I was 11, I encountered adults who were not able to see beyond the behavior to the hurting girl inside. I knew then that I wanted to become someone who could look beyond what was happening on the outside and help heal the hurt inside for kids who often have no choice in the pain they find themselves trying to make sense of.
Initially, that path lead me into teaching. I loved teaching but one day during math help class, I looked outside my classroom after school and noticed a line of kids that wanted to talk to me about their “real” problems. It was at that moment I knew my heart wanted to transition to become a counselor for kids and teens.
In my free time, I enjoy planning parties often involving water balloons or something fun. I find nature soothing and relaxing. Having moved from South Florida, I enjoy the seasons and particularly all things fall in North Carolina. I would like to have a therapy dog one day. My last attempt was with Bailey who was very social. In fact too social. He did not get past the first several classes of his AKC Canine Good Citizenship class.
Childhood and teen years can be some of the happiest times in life or they can be filled with deep wounds that affect adult choices. Young minds are not equipped to deal with some of the harsh realities that confront them. Allow me to support you as together we replace the hurt your child is facing with hope.

SOLE PRACTICE IS AGES 4-17
Working with kids is not just about providing them with crayons, paint and a fidget. Providing them with tools is my passion. It is strategic and intentional. I have literally spent hundreds of hours (all of which I have loved) learning numerous ways to combine evidence- based treatment with fun intentional activities so kids (and teens if they choose) can enjoy the process, learn coping skills for whatever they are facing and reach their full potential.
EVIDENCE-BASED
There are so many things competing for your attention. Google says one thing. Your moms’ groups suggest another that really worked for their child. You love your kids and would do anything to help them. How do you know what to do? Incorporating Evidence-based treatment (EBT) is vital for a successful outcome.
EBT refers to therapeutic practices that are grounded in scientific research and proven effectiveness, ensuring that clients receive the best possible care. EBT has been shown to be effective for a wide range of issues your child might be facing, leading to improved outcomes for you.
